Ngorongoro Crater
One of Africa’s best known and most unique attractions, the Ngorongoro Crater is a spectacular ‘caldera’ offering majestic views from the crater rim and superb game-viewing on the crater floor.
Serengeti National Park
A huge tract of stunning open grassland plains, interspersed with acacia woodland, forested river courses and rocky outcrops. Home to a huge variety of wildlife, including the annual wildebeest and zebra migration.
Lake Manyara National Park
A small but very beautiful park at the foot of the Rift Valley escarpment. Good game-viewing and birding, including flamingos on the lake, and worth a visit if passing.
Tarangire National Park
A good all round wildlife destination with some lovely scenery and superb game-viewing in the dry season, especially elephants.
Mount Kilimanjaro
At 5895m (19340ft) Uhuru Peak on Kilimanjaro is the highest point in Africa. The climb is physically exhausting but not technical, and takes between 5 and 7 days.
Zanzibar
This ‘spice island’ is full of character and history, but is best known as a fantastic and convenient beach destination, with good scuba diving.
Selous Game Reserve
A huge and varied reserve with good game-viewing, excellent birding and wonderful boat cruises along the Rufiji River.
Ruaha National Park
Truly wild and remote African wilderness, with fantastic big game concentrations and varied habitats.
Katavi National Park
Very remote and one of Africa’s most exclusive safari destinations. Major game concentrations in the dry season, especially elephant, buffalo and hippo.
Mahale Mountains National Park
A stunning and unique natural destination, where densely forested mountains tumble down to meet the golden beaches and crystal clear waters of Lake Tanganyika. Wild and remote, this is the best place in Africa to see chimps in the wild.
