Hi Rob, Just a quick note to express our thanks for organising such a great itinerary for us over the holiday. One is always nervous that a holiday like this will live up to expectations, but it did, and exceeded them in so many places. The Seychelles was everything we hoped for. Ridiculously white coral sands and turquoise seas full of fish. Sunshine for the whole week (well mostly!) and delightful people everywhere. La Reserve, which is undergoing something of a transition under new ownership, was excellent. On to Tanda Tula. The scenic drive with Geoff Marsh was very interesting but got a bit squeezed for time as we wanted to be in Timbavati for 2.30pm. When we arrived, what a fabulous place. Great organisation and within the hour we were out on our first game drive. By the end of our second we’d already clocked up the big 5 and were concentrating on behavioural aspects and, of course, the birds. Dale Jackson and Jack and Isaac, the trackers, were terrific; we’re filled with admiration for there knowledge and skills. The next three days were filled with experiences that exceeded all our expectations, topped off by two encounters with wild dogs, one on a kill disputed with hyena. All the staff at the lodge were fantastic, the food was impossible to resist and the surroundings impeccable. Rob, thank you once again for all your efforts on our behalf.

Bird Island
A nature lovers paradise named after the ‘sooty’ terns which descend in great numbers to breed. The one hotel on the island is reasonably simple in style.
Denis Island
This is paradise, with perfect white beaches, wonderful swimming and snorkelling off the beach, and great scuba diving and fishing. The one hotel on the island is of a good standard, but not five star. Accessible by scheduled flight.
Praslin Island
The second largest island in the Seychelles, with many fantastic beaches and some good hotels. Also boasts the ‘Vallee de Mai’ Nature Reserve – a UNESCO World heritage site.
La Digue Island
The fourth largest island in the Seychelles, La Digue is a sleepy island with limited accommodation options but some fantastic beaches on the south of the island, which are reached by bicycle!
Fregate Island
A small ‘granitic’ island boasting one of the most luxurious and exclusive hotels in the Seychelles. Accessible by helicopter.
North Island
A small ‘granitic’ island boasting possibly the most upmarket and exclusive (and expensive) beach property in the Seychelles. Accessible by helicopter.
Desroches Island
A remote island with some good beaches, lovely swimming, snorkelling, scuba diving and fishing. The one hotel on the island is of a very good standard, but not five star. Accessible by scheduled flight.
Alphonse Island
A very remote island which is known for its fly-fishing opportunities (late September through to May) rather than its beaches. The lodge has recently been rebuilt completely by new owners. Accessible by scheduled flight.
Mahe Island
The largest island in the Seychelles, with stunning scenery, many great beaches and a reasonable road network. Some fantastic five star resorts, but lacking in good mid-range hotels and more boutique style hotels.

Introduction to the beautiful islands of The Seychelles
The Seychelles are made up of 115 islands in the heart of the Indian Ocean, north-east of Madagascar and due east from mainland East Africa. The main ‘inner’ islands are largest and are ‘granitic’ in origin, with high boulder-strewn mountains and dense tumbling forest creating a wild and beautiful scene. The ‘outer’ islands are mostly flat ‘coral’ islands, often small enough to walk around in an hour or two, and offer a more exclusive desert island experience.
Mahé, Praslin and La Digue islands are the three largest in the Seychelles, and the only ones that offer multiple accommodation options and ‘sight-seeing’ excursions. Golf is available on Praslin, and general touring by self-drive is possible on Mahé and Praslin only. Birding and scuba diving are available throughout. Smaller ‘granitic’ islands include Silhouette, Round, Cousin, Cousine, Fregate and the reputed North Island. Although the Seychelles is not universally known for ‘superb service’, there are a number of top quality five star hotels located on these ‘inner islands’.
The best known outer islands include Bird, Denis, Desroches and Alphonse, all of which are large enough to support an airstrip and offer reasonably good accommodation. As well as being very exclusive and escapist with empty beaches, most of these islands offer superb scuba-diving and fishing. Alphonse, in particular, is said to offering some of the best salt water fly-fishing in the world.
Island hopping is certainly possible in the Seychelles, with travel between most islands by scheduled flight or private helicopter charter. Moving between some of the main inner islands can also be undertaken by boat/ferry.
