James and Stephanie from London travelled to Uganda
Dear Rob, we had a fantastic holiday. Thank you again for all the tips and advice. Boma Guest House is a fantastic place to stay near the airport. Comfortable rooms and great service. Nkuringo Lodge is in a Beautiful setting. Buhoma Lodge – this may be one of our all-time favourite hotels we have ever visited. The tree house room was perfect, the staff were incredible, and the food was excellent. We loved sitting in their open air bar/lounge area in the afternoons and relaxing. Both our gorilla treks were of course incredible. A wonderful African holiday again!![]()

Peter and Anne from Cambridgeshire travelled to Uganda
Rob, just a brief note to say a huge thank you for organising such a fantastic trip to Uganda for us. Everything was brilliant and the mountain gorilla trekking experience is one that will live with us both for the rest of our lives – amazing! Hassan was a fantastic guide and friend – and everyone seemed to know him wherever we went. His birding knowledge is sensational and we racked up 311 species during the trip but missed out on the Chocolate Kingfisher in the Royal Mile and the Shoebill in the Delta but did get some crackers…..Scenery everywhere was simply breath-taking – including the crater lakes; and of course Murchison Falls and the Nile. We saw an incredible array of primates including the chimps in Kibale and a L’Hoest’s monkey sitting on our bed in Buhoma; a lone gorilla crossing the road in front of us while we were birding in front of the lodge in Buhoma; plus a close encounter with a three metre long spitting cobra in Bigodi Swamp. Lodges and locations all so different that it is almost impossible to compare – however, the Masindi Hotel was interesting! Thanks again and look forward to our next African odyssey…..you guys have delivered yet again….!![]()

Map of Uganda
Please roll over the red lettering for information on those areas.
Lake Mburo
A pretty park centred around the lake with good birding and some good game-viewing. A convenient stop off between Kampala and the south-west.
Queen Elizabeth National Park
Uganda’s premier big game destination, also offering chimpanzee tracking in Kyambura Gorge and river cruises on the Kazinga Channel.
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
An amazing and beautiful region of ‘jungle’ and densely forested mountains that is aptly named and the best place in Uganda to see mountain gorillas.
Kibale National Park
Predominantly a forested park offering the best chimpanzee tracking experience in Uganda. The Bigodi Swamp is also superb for birding.
Semliki Valley
A remote and scenic region with some good general game-viewing and chances to see more specialist wildlife such as chimpanzee, and shoebill on Lake Edward.
Mount Gahinga National Park
The north-eastern, Uganda portion of the Virunga Volanoes, where volcanoes can be climbed and gorillas can also be seen (sightings less guaranteed than in Rwanda).
Murchison Falls National Park
Main attraction is the spectacular falls themselves, however the park offers superb all round game-viewing, with chances to see shoebill.
Kidepo National Park
Very remote and little-visited but some good game-viewing and lovely open grassland scenery.

Uganda Introduction
Introduction to the beautiful country of Uganda
Uganda is a country with wonderful natural scenery and very friendly people, and as most safaris tour the country by road, you are able to really take in the atmosphere and beauty of this land.
The highlight of embarking on a Uganda safari is usually seeing the incredible mountain gorillas, either in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest or in Mgahinga National Park on the northern slopes of the Virunga Volcanoes. However, Uganda offers a huge amount more.
Primate viewing is exceptional with around 19 species recorded including chimpanzee which are found in numerous areas such as Kibale and Budongo forests and the Kyambura Gorge in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Ngamba Island off Entebbe offers the chance to see rescued chimps close up.
Big game viewing is very good in Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth, Kidepo and Lake Mburo National Parks, whilst the Ruwenzori ‘Mountains of the Moon’, and Mount Elgon provide some spectacular mountain trekking.
Uganda is also an incredible birding destination, with well over 1000 species found, including the rare shoebill and many Albertine Rift endemics.
Overland safaris are generally undertaken in the form of small group departures or tailor-made private safaris. We primarily specialise in the latter, but please see our ‘Group Tours’ page if you are looking to join a group. Many tours now combine both Uganda and Rwanda by starting in Kigali and ending in Kampala (or vice versa). Private safaris are tailored around your interests and requirements.
