Dear Rob, I just wanted to thank you for organising such a wonderful safari. It all went like clockwork with no hitches. We were warmly welcomed where ever we went and the staff and guides were excellent, cheerful, friendly and helpful. The lodges were luxurious! The sundowners were special in that our guides chose beautiful places for us to get out of the vehicle, the surrounding bushes inspected for any nasty surprises and we enjoyed watching the sun go down with the different reflections and light that seems to only happen in Africa. Every lodge was different in different terrain and we saw lots of lovely birds and animals and were able to get close to many of them. We enjoyed the walks, Mokoro and boat trips. Lots of new experiences and it was a very happy family holiday. Thank you very much for choosing such lovely places to visit. Well done Rob, you did us proud.![]()

Sinead from County Mayo, Ireland travelled to Mana Pools in Zimbabwe
Hi Michele, the holiday was great, mana pools is such a beautiful place. Lots of game and I finally saw leopard up close. The wild dogs were unique I saw two packs at Kanga and Ruchomechi. Both camps were excellent great food and accommodation. Ruchomechi was busy with not enough jeeps , particularly if you wanted to go out with just your own party. Guides were excellent, beautiful setting. Kanga great camp, food and tents great – had the honeymoon suite fab. The guides weren’t as experienced. Zimbabwe is fast becoming my favourite African country. Thank you for all your help.![]()

Rob, we’re back after a fantastic three weeks in Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Arrangements went like clockwork; transfers were spot on; guides and accommodation were great and we had some amazing experiences. Thank you so much for your attention to detail; your knowledge and willingness to work with Rob Janisch to make it all come together. We remain great ambassadors for Safari Consultants and passed on your details to most people we met! Zimbabwe really captured our hearts. Great people; wonderful wildlife; and amazing scenery. Craig Van Zyl was great and the wildlife at Mana Pools was fantastic. The food/camp/hosting was superb. Must enlarge on our Mana experiences when we see you. Lots to tell!!!!! The Vumba was a terrific idea – and Rob Janisch proved a great host up in the mountains. I think the area could form a great bridge between Mana Pools and Mozambique. Explore Gorongosa was brilliant – Rob hosted us personally all the time and to be honest, made us feel like one of the family. You just know we’ll be talking to you before long about our next African adventure. Thank you once again.![]()

I cannot express my enjoyment of the trip to the full extent!! Jonny gave us exceptional advice and support and everything provided prior to the trip was detailed and relevant. We would do the whole thing again….tomorrow!! A fantastic experience which outstripped the expectations and this was largely due to the organization and professionalism of staff.![]()

Map of Zimbabwe
Please roll over the red lettering for information on those areas.
Victoria Falls
The world’s widest waterfall, where the mighty Zambezi River plunges 111 metres into the Batoka Gorge, famously discovered by Sir David Livingstone who claimed that ‘scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight’.
Hwange National Park
A huge wilderness region known for its big game, especially elephant, buffalo and lion. Arguably Zimbabwe’s premier game region and certainly ‘raw Africa’ at its best.
Matobo Hills National Park
A dramatic landscape of rocky hills, granite boulders and forested ravines which is home to the grave of Cecil John Rhodes as well as healthy populations of rhino, leopard and black eagles.
Matusadona National Park
A large park which tumbles from the rocky wilderness of the Matusadona Hills to the open shores of Lake Kariba. Dominated by the lake with fantastic water-based game-viewing, birding and fishing opportunities.
Mana Pools National Park
Dominated by the gentle waters of the mighty Zambezi River, Mana Pools is a special place offering fantastic game-viewing, stunning scenery and varied activities, including the best canoeing safaris in Africa.

Zimbabwe Introduction
Introduction to the wonderful country of Zimbabwe
For the latter part of the 20th century, Zimbabwe was the ‘place to go’ on safari in Africa. Wonderful and varied scenery, fantastic hospitality, great game-viewing, varied safari activities and a reputation for having the best safari guides in Africa, all added up to make Zimbabwe pretty irresistible to the safari connoisseur. Unfortunately, the political situation from 2000 onwards had a deep impact on the country as a holiday destination. Since around 2011/2012 the country has been getting seriously ‘back in business’ and we now feel Zimbabwe is nearly back to its best.
The best big game areas are Hwange National Park (which is perhaps one of the very best places in Africa to view elephants and sable antelope) and Mana Pools National Park (which is especially good for leopards and wild dogs). Matusadona National Park on the shores of Lake Kariba has suffered in the past 15 years in terms of big game (sadly there are few black rhino remaining) but it is still a magical destination with fantastic scenery, excellent birding and reasonable general game including lions and plenty of elephant.
However while general game-viewing is excellent in a number of parks, the country is especially known for offering fantastic walking safaris, led by the continents best professional guides who will take you in search of big game, as well as teaching you about the smaller details of the bush. In addition, Mana Pools, The Upper Zambezi and Matusadona offer some of the best water-based game-viewing and fishing available in Africa.
Victoria Falls, the world’s widest waterfall, is a major attraction and to see the falls from the air during full flood is one of Africa’s great sights.
In addition to Hwange, Matusadona, Mana Pools and Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe’s other highlights include the Eastern Highlands, a mountainous area of stunning beauty, the Great Zimbabwe Ruins near Masvingo, the Matobo Hills near Bulawayo, the wilderness of Gonarezhou in the south-east, including nearby private reserve Pamushana, Kazuma Pan bordering Hwange and the Upper Zambezi (Zambezi National Park and Matetsi safari region) to the west of Victoria Falls.
Zimbabwe is back as a major safari destination but is still slightly better suited to more adventurous travellers who are keen to explore on foot, and/or more experienced safari goers who understand that in genuine wilderness regions game-viewing cannot always be guaranteed.
