Namibia

  • Hi Frances, we have been back for a while, took some time to get sorted and slip back into our lives, and now I want to give you some feedback on our trip to Namibia. In short, it was very different from Tanzania and a unique experience that you, again, organized very well. We had a fantastic time and we are very grateful for your excellent service! Let me say a word about the trip in general. First and foremost, we loved it! Secondly, it was well-designed in the sense that the initial camping trip was a bit rough and outdoors, which took as out of our office mind-sets and it ended with an inspiring highlight in Mundulea. This made us think that we were in such good hands when we asked you to arrange the trip for us. We came back with a very happy feeling and we are very grateful for the trip that you organized for us. Thank you again for that.

Accommodation Options In Namibia

Namibia offers a wide variety of accommodation to suit different requirements. As self-drive is a popular way to tour the country, there are reasonably priced guest farms, country/desert hotels and safari lodges strategically located around the country. In designated nature reserves, private conservancies and wildlife parks, more typical safari accommodation styles are found, including intimate tented lodges and exclusive desert lodges. The government body for running Namibia’s National Parks and Reserves, Namibia Wildlife Resorts, also offer a range of accommodation, from basic camp sites and self-catering chalets, to a limited number of luxury safari lodges. There is a general mix of properties offering either accommodation only, or accommodation with a range of local activities.

Whilst most accommodation in Namibia can comfortably be reached by normal saloon car, some remote properties are only accessible by 4×4 vehicle or by air. Invariably, these properties include a fully hosted experience with guided activities included.

Tented safaris are a popular way to experience the country, and they allow you to access the most remote regions where no permanent accommodation exists. The camps tend to be very lightweight and mobile (luxury mobile camps have never proved very practical when travelling huge distances through difficult terrain), and these safaris are available either privately, or part of a small group (see our ‘Group tours’ section).

Whilst historically Namibia has never been known as a ‘five star’ destination, there are a number of properties across the country which do offer very high levels of sophistication and luxury which can include features such as air-conditioning and private plunge pools.

Please find below a variety of individual properties and safari options available in Namibia, listed by accommodation style and where appropriate, by region. Simply click on the name to visit the property website. To learn more about the individual accommodation styles, please visit our ‘Accommodation on Safari’ section off our home page.
