Swakopmund and Walvis Bay
A convenient stop over between the Namib Desert and Damaraland, offering a pleasant coastal experience including wonderful seal and dolphin cruises to Pelican Point and beach trips to Sandwich Harbour.
Etosha National Park
Namibia’s premier big game destination, set around a vast salt pan (Etosha Pan) which holds water seasonally. General game-viewing is excellent in the dry season, often focused around water holes. Self-drive is possible as well as guided safaris.
NamibRand Nature Reserve
A scenically stunning private reserve bordering the Namib Naukluft National Park in the Namib Desert. Some interesting wildlife to see, but it is the scenery and exclusivity which makes it so special.
Caprivi Strip
The ‘greener’ part of Namibia, where four great rivers influence the landscape and provide permanent water and water-based activities. Some very good game-viewing areas which are often accessed most easily from Botswana.
Kaokoland
Remote, wild, exclusive and scenically breath-taking in many places. Home of the nomadic Himba people, desert elephants and a variety of other game.
Skeleton Coast National Park
A harsh and remote landscape where gravel plains and sand dunes meet the cold Atlantic Ocean. Known for its remoteness, eerie atmosphere, shipwrecks and limited wildlife including numerous seal colonies.
Fish River Canyon
A spectacular canyon carved through the desert landscape. Adventurous walking within the canyon is possible.
Damaraland
A wild and mountainous desert region famous for rock engravings, desert-adapted rhino and elephant. Spectacular scenery and some good general game-viewing.
Erongo Mountains
A stunning but fairly compact region of granitic hills offering superb walking and specialist birding opportunities.
The Namib Desert and Namib Naukluft National Park
Incredible desert scenery with spectacular sand dunes stretching inland from the Atlantic coast. Some wildlife to see, but the sand dunes around Sossusvlei are the main attraction.
