Lake Mburo
A pretty park centred around the lake with good birding and some good game-viewing. A convenient stop off between Kampala and the south-west.
Queen Elizabeth National Park
Uganda’s premier big game destination, also offering chimpanzee tracking in Kyambura Gorge and river cruises on the Kazinga Channel.
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
An amazing and beautiful region of ‘jungle’ and densely forested mountains that is aptly named and the best place in Uganda to see mountain gorillas.
Kibale National Park
Predominantly a forested park offering the best chimpanzee tracking experience in Uganda. The Bigodi Swamp is also superb for birding.
Semliki Valley
A remote and scenic region with some good general game-viewing and chances to see more specialist wildlife such as chimpanzee, and shoebill on Lake Edward.
Mount Gahinga National Park
The north-eastern, Uganda portion of the Virunga Volanoes, where volcanoes can be climbed and gorillas can also be seen (sightings less guaranteed than in Rwanda).
Murchison Falls National Park
Main attraction is the spectacular falls themselves, however the park offers superb all round game-viewing, with chances to see shoebill.
Kidepo National Park
Very remote and little-visited but some good game-viewing and lovely open grassland scenery.
